Sacred Rock Reflections at Sydney Sunset in across a floodplain after rain near Paddington, Sydney

Sacred Rock Reflections at Sydney Sunset

by Damon Hutchinson

Warm golden light spills across a wet floodplain near Paddington, Sydney, where an Aboriginal sacred rock formation anchors the view. Puddles from recent rain create a flawless mirrored surface, doubling the stone's rugged texture and the soft, early winter sky. Humid air hangs low, visible as a slight haze softening the distant horizon. The rock, weathered and earth-toned, rises from the shallow water, its rough grey surface against the smooth, glassy reflections below. Tall, dormant grasses frame the edges, their brown stalks bending slightly toward the water. The composition balances the solid mass of the stone against the fluid, expansive reflection, ending with the sharp, dark edge of the rock meeting its perfect inverted image in the still water.
