Sump Reflections Under Golden Hour Rain South Australia

by Raquel Whitley

Rain-slicked concrete forms a shallow basin beside a steel ladder climbing a massive water tower. The still water inside the sump mirrors the steel pipework overhead, distorting the rigid lines into wavy, silver ripples. Blinking red indicators from the tower structure cast sharp, rhythmic dots on the dark surface, competing with the warm orange glow of the setting sun. Early winter dampness coats the metal rungs and the rough gray stone of the tower base. Droplets ripple outward where rain hits the stagnant pool, breaking the reflection momentarily before the surface settles again. One drop rolls off a pipe joint, merging into the dark water below.
