Decaying Trestle Bridge in German Vineyard in along a vine-choked corridor in Germany

Decaying Trestle Bridge in German Vineyard

by Felicia Hays

Warm golden light spills across a crumbling timber trestle bridge where rotting support beams lean precariously inward. Thick vines choke the iron rails and wrap around the splintered wood, their brown leaves clinging to the structure in late autumn. A thick layer of ground fog pools in the hollows beneath the bridge, obscuring the forest floor and softening the base of the pillars. The decay is visible in the gray, weathered texture of the timber against the vibrant orange glow of the setting sun. Leading lines formed by the bridge's remaining rails draw toward the vanishing point in the distance. One splintered plank hangs loosely from the railing, catching the last rays of light.
