Rain Soaked Mural and Broken Tiles in Hull

by Teagan Meyers

Copper-toned light wraps the wet pavement outside a Kingston upon Hull metro entrance as a light drizzle slicks the cracked mural and scattered broken tiles. The mural, once vibrant, now shows deep fissures running through faded paint, while jagged ceramic shards lie embedded in the damp ground. Vertical subway grates and horizontal curb lines create strong leading paths that guide the gaze toward the darkened tunnel mouth. Water beads on the rough concrete surfaces, reflecting the fading horizon glow. The broken tiles catch the dim copper light, their glazed edges sharp against the matte, waterlogged stone. One shard rests near the base of a rusted signpost, its edge catching the last available illumination.
