Peeling Murals Under Colina Tram Overpass in at a tram stop in Colina

Peeling Murals Under Colina Tram Overpass

by Jerry Hanson

Rain slicks the concrete floor beneath the Colina tram overpass, reflecting the faint rim light that cuts through the pre-dawn darkness. The massive steel beams overhead bear the remnants of vibrant murals, their paint peeling in long, curled strips to reveal gray primer underneath. Early autumn dampness coats the asphalt, turning the surface into a dark mirror that stretches toward the distant tracks. Water droplets rest on the rough texture of the stucco walls, catching the dim blue glow of the sky. Faded geometric shapes in orange and teal stretch across the shadowed ceiling, their edges softening against the wet grime. A puddle near the edge of the frame shows the distorted reflection of a rusted support column.
