Rain-Slicked Drawbridge Deck Under Delhi Viaduct in under a viaduct of steel and concrete near Delhi

Rain-Slicked Drawbridge Deck Under Delhi Viaduct

by Richard Jensen

Steel beams and concrete supports frame a wet drawbridge deck where river light reflects sharply against the lacquered surface. Fine mist rises from the water below, clinging to the lower edges of the steel girders while clear late-afternoon sun defines every structural line. The symmetrical composition draws toward the vanishing point where the bridge meets the horizon. Puddles on the deck mirror the gray sky and the dark underbelly of the viaduct. Droplets rest on the metal railings, catching the light in tiny, bright points. The texture of the wet concrete contrasts with the smooth, oily sheen of the painted steel. One rivet head on the central beam reflects the sky above.
