Deep shadows cloak the rolling foothills near Oslo as early spring begins its slow work. A chinook wind sweeps across the storm-bright plain, turning the snow surface into a patchwork of wet, dark slush and lingering white crusts. The sky above is perfectly clear, offering a stark contrast to the low light that settles over the landscape. Sunlight catches the upper ridges in a thin rim of gold, silhouetting the melting drifts against the darkening earth. Water beads on the frozen ground, reflecting the faint glow of the horizon. The texture of the snow shifts from powdery to heavy and saturated as the wind pushes it down.
