Indigo ambient light washes over a massive bronze bell resting on a heavy iron stand within the cavernous turbine hall near Konya. A worker in dark protective gear uses a cloth to rub the curved metal surface, creating a bright, metallic sheen that cuts through the damp, indigo haze. Fine vapor rests on the air, softening the edges of the surrounding concrete walls and steel support beams. The polished section of the bell reflects the dim overhead fixtures, against the duller, oxidized bronze of the unworked areas. Late autumn chill is visible in the way the vapor hangs low near the floor, settling on the rough concrete and metal grating. The worker's gloved hand presses firmly against the curve, leaving a streak of high gloss against the matte finish.
