Soft, diffused light from an overcast sky illuminates the open dome of a high desert observatory beside a tidal survey transect near Cairo. The cluster of the Pleiades shines faintly through the haze, visible as a tight grouping of stars above the structure. Metal housings and indicator lights on the equipment reflect the ambient glow, creating small points of brightness against the dark machinery. The dry season air leaves the surfaces clear of moisture, showing the texture of the weathered metal and the precise alignment of the dome's opening. One reflection of a red status light glimmers on the curved edge of the housing.
