Pleiades Over Chilean Observatory in Daylight in along a rocky geology outcrop in Chile

Pleiades Over Chilean Observatory in Daylight

by Shawn Cameron

The Pleiades cluster hangs in a pale blue sky above a high desert observatory perched on a rocky geology outcrop in Chile. The white dome stands open, revealing the dark interior of the telescope against the bright afternoon sun. Reflected light off distant water sources washes over the scene, creating a shimmering haze that softens the sharp edges of the surrounding rocks. Dry, sparse vegetation rests on the arid ground while wind whips loose dust and debris across the foreground. The dome structure appears rigid and functional, its metallic surface gleaming under the harsh daylight. A thin trail of exhaust or steam rises faintly from the base of the telescope, against the stillness of the star cluster above. The open dome frame isolates the instrument against the vast, empty sky.
