Peeling Paint Layers on Old Fishing Boat

by Regina Owen

Chipped white and faded blue paint curls in thick, brittle flakes from the rough timber hull, revealing layers of age beneath. Soft tungsten light casts warm, amber shadows into the deep crevices where the wood grain meets the decaying coating. The surface texture is coarse and uneven, with ridges of dried paint standing up like miniature cliffs against the dark, lichen-spotted background. Dust settles in the gaps between the flaking layers, catching the dim light in tiny, suspended particles. The composition isolates this fragment of the boat, showing the tactile roughness of the weathered material. A sharp edge of peeling blue paint catches the lamplight, glowing faintly against the shadowed wood.
