Sunk Rowboat in Misty Autumn Pond
by Pablo Nava
Rich amber light from the setting sun washes over a weathered wooden rowboat half-submerged in the still waters of a pond near Ruda Śląska. Late autumn mist clings low to the surface, softening the reflection of the boat's dark hull. The wood shows deep grain and peeling paint, against the smooth, glassy water that has risen over the gunwales. Bare branches of nearby deciduous trees extend into the upper left corner, their bare twigs silhouetted against the glowing sky. A cluster of brown, decaying reeds stands upright in the shallow water beside the boat, their tips drooping slightly. The water's edge meets the boat's side in a sharp, dark line where the wood is permanently stained by the pond's long immersion. A final streak of gold light catches the wet rim of the oarlock, glowing against the shadowed interior.
