Peat River Flows Over Granite Slabs at Dusk in across a wide valley floor near Jaranwala

Peat River Flows Over Granite Slabs at Dusk

by Darryl Stevenson

Dark peat-stained water moves across broad granite slabs in a wide valley near Jaranwala. The river flows in deep shadow, while a sharp rim light catches the crest of each small wave and the wet edges of the stone. Late spring foliage lines the distant banks in fresh green tones. City lights begin to glow on the far horizon, casting faint orange points against the darkening sky. The low angle emphasizes the smooth, worn texture of the granite and the steady current carving its path through the rock. A thin layer of mist rises from the cold surface, catching the fading light.
