River Through Red Sandstone Canyon Namibia

Soft overcast light flattens the shadows across a wide floodplain in midsummer Namibia. A shallow river cuts a sinuous path through the landscape, its water reflecting the pale gray sky. Towering walls of red sandstone rise vertically on either side, their surfaces textured by erosion and streaked with darker mineral deposits. Heat haze shimmers above the water and the wet earth, distorting the horizon line slightly. The composition remains minimalist, dominated by the horizontal expanse of the plain and the verticality of the canyon walls. Small patches of green vegetation rest on the riverbanks, against the dominant ochre and rust tones of the stone. A thin layer of mist hangs low near the ground, softening the transition between the river and the distant cliffs.
