Low dawn light grazes the angular concrete edges of a massive overpass interchange, casting long, soft shadows across the wet steel freight yard below. A canal lock chamber anchors the scene in Shaanxi, its stone walls slick with morning moisture. Ground fog pools heavily in the low spaces between the rail tracks, obscuring the base of the infrastructure while the upper spans remain sharp against the pale sky. The early summer air holds no visible steam, only the damp sheen on the metal beams and the gray-green hue of the concrete. Rust streaks run vertically down the steel girders, marking the passage of time against the civic austerity of the structure. One rusted rail car sits idle, its wheels half-buried in the misty ground.
