Orangutan in North Korean Reed Bed Golden Hour

by Monique Singh

Late sunlight bathes the edge of a reed bed in North Korea, where dust hangs low above the marshy ground. An orangutan sits high in the canopy, its reddish-brown fur glowing against the fading blue sky. The primate grips a thick branch, framed tightly by surrounding reeds that create a natural border. Green shoots of early spring emerge from the water below, against the dry, golden stalks. Shadows stretch long across the wet earth as the sun dips low. The animal’s dark eyes reflect the last light. One reed tip bends under the weight of a passing breeze.
