Straw Hats and Baskets on Sampan at Oran River

Soft, diffused light from an overcast sky falls across a weathered wooden sampan resting against the muddy riverbank near Oran. The boat carries a dense arrangement of woven straw hats and sturdy baskets, their golden-brown fibers textured with years of use. Fine sea spray rests on the surfaces, darkening the wood and highlighting the intricate weave patterns. A diagonal line of goods stretches from the bow to the stern, creating visual tension against the calm water. The turn of the seasons is visible in the slightly frayed edges of the straw and the muted, earthy tones of the wet sand. Water droplets glisten on the rim of a basket, reflecting the gray sky above.
