Orangutan Nesting in Canopy at Lome Twilight

by Chase Bravo

Faint orange light from a distant town glows along the horizon beneath a perfectly clear, deepening blue sky. High above, an orangutan weaves green vines and broad leaves into a sturdy nest within the dense canopy of a tree bordering a reed bed. The angle from the ground emphasizes the height and fragility of the structure. Twisted branches create a dark lattice against the fading sky. The animal's reddish-brown fur blends with the rough bark as it pulls a vine taut. Below, the tall, dry stalks of the reed bed stand still in the stillness. One leaf rests on the edge of the woven nest, catching the last reflection of the sky.
