Onion Furrow Silhouetted Against Mauritius Sunset

by Bjorn Lawson

Silver water beads rest on the slender green stalks of young onions arranged in a straight furrow. The setting sun hangs low behind the crops, turning the leaves into dark, sharp silhouettes against a glowing, humid sky. Mist rises gently from the wet soil, blurring the edges where the furrow meets the terraced rice paddies in the background. The ground reflects the fading orange light, while droplets on the onion skins catch the backlight, creating tiny, bright sparks along the row. Thick moisture rests on the air, visible as a haze softening the distant terraces. One drop slides down a curved leaf, marking the edge of the dark furrow.
