Neon Reflections on Wet Accra Alley Pavement

by Ann Delaney

Hard street glare softens into a hazy glow over the rain-darkened pavement of a back alley in East Legon. Steam rises visibly from metal grates, curling upward into the late afternoon air. A distant neon sign casts a fractured streak of electric blue and crimson across the slick asphalt, mirroring the kiosk's shadowed silhouette. Water pools in shallow depressions, distorting the vibrant colors into liquid shards. The rough texture of the wet ground contrasts with the smooth, glassy sheen of the puddles. One puddle near the foreground shows a sharp, inverted reflection of the sign's jagged lettering against the dark gray concrete.
