Silver rain streaks across the dark asphalt, catching the harsh glow of a nearby convenience store's fluorescent signage. A shoe shine stand sits pressed against the curb, its metal frame gleaming with recent use. Puddles reflect the red and blue neon haze that spills from the shop entrance, turning the wet ground into a mosaic of fractured light. A leather shoe rests on the footrest, its surface polished to a mirror sheen that contrasts with the surrounding grime. A small pile of used rags and a tin of wax sit on the lower shelf, evidence of the work just finished. The rim light from the store cuts a sharp edge around the silhouette of the stand, separating it from the deep shadows of the alleyway. one drop of water slides slowly down the metal leg, disappearing into the wet concrete below.
