Rain Darkened Alley Shortcut Blantyre Midnight Neon

by Andrea Stone

Wet asphalt reflects the fractured glow of distant neon signs from two avenues meeting at a narrow shortcut in Blantyre. A rain-darkened kiosk stands against the left wall, its corrugated metal skin slick with droplets that catch the faint rim light cutting through the heavy overcast sky. Deep shadows swallow the center of the alley while the edges remain sharp against the gloom. Seasonal leaves rest on the damp ground near the kiosk base, their muted browns against the electric blue and red hues washing over the puddles. The corner of the frame cuts off the kiosk abruptly, leaving the path to continue into the darkness beyond. A puddle near the bottom right edge mirrors the distorted vertical line of a streetlamp.
