Moss-Covered Log on Tripoli Floodplain

Hard coastal glare slices across a waterlogged floodplain near Tripoli, illuminating a massive fallen log resting on the silt. Thirty distinct species of moss blanket the rotting wood in dense, textured layers of olive, rust, and charcoal green. The bark beneath is rough and deeply fissured, holding moisture from the recent rain. Scattered dry leaves skitter across the wet mud nearby, caught in a sudden gust that disturbs the stillness. From above, the log acts as a dark anchor against the pale, glistening earth. Sharp shadows define the ridges of the moss, highlighting the chaotic diversity of the growth against the smooth, wet ground. One frond of fern curls at the log's edge.
