Moss Covered Log After Rain in Ghorahi Floodplain
by Cora Brennan
Soft afternoon light falls through a clearing in the Ghorahi floodplain, illuminating an ancient log resting on wet earth. Thirty distinct species of moss blanket the weathered bark, ranging from deep emerald tufts to pale, feathery greens. A fine layer of frost rests on the highest moss tips and the damp grass blades surrounding the wood, creating a sharp contrast against the lingering warmth of the season. The log lies diagonally across the frame, its rough texture absorbing the diffused light while frost crystals glint on the surface. Beside the timber, shallow pools reflect the gray sky, and the wind-sculpted grass bends low, showing the quiet, solitary nature of the landscape. The frost line stops abruptly at the water's edge, marking the boundary between the frozen ground and the flowing river.
