Edelweiss and Gentian Bloom From Cracked Concrete in from a ridge above layered foothills in Yunnan

Edelweiss and Gentian Bloom From Cracked Concrete

by Bryce DeJesus

Vibrant white edelweiss and deep violet gentian flowers burst upward from jagged fissures in a weathered gray concrete slab. The rough, pitted surface of the stone contrasts sharply with the delicate, fuzzy petals rising from the cracks. Low-hanging clouds drift just above the ridge, casting a soft, fading violet light across the layered foothills of Yunnan in the distance. The horizon glows with the last warmth of a late spring sunset. Shadows stretch long and thin across the uneven ground, showing the impossible growth. One white petal rests on a rough tile edge, catching the fading golden light.
