Mirror Haveli Flowers Erupt in Twilight

by Tyrone Anderson

Indigo twilight deepens the shadows across a colonnaded facade where a Rajasthani haveli structure meets the architecture of Yogyakarta. Mirrored tiles cover the walls, reflecting the dramatic clouds above in fragmented shards of silver and blue. From hairline cracks in the concrete floor and the metal railings, vibrant flowers erupt in impossible clusters, their petals pushing through the hard surfaces as a matter of fact. The wet season leaves the stone slick and dark, against the sudden bloom of red and yellow petals rising from the ground. Rim light traces the edge of the colonnade, separating the dark masonry from the heavy sky. One cluster of white blossoms breaks through a rusted metal grate near the bottom right corner.
