Monks Chanting in Early Winter Drizzle

Warm string lights drape across the high rafters of a stone meditation hall near Porto, casting a soft amber glow on rows of seated monks. The early evening light falls through gaps in the slate roof, illuminating the fine mist of a light drizzle suspended in the air. The monks wear heavy, earth-toned robes that absorb the dim light, their hands resting calmly on their knees. Wet stone floors reflect the flickering bulbs, creating elongated streaks of gold. Leading lines formed by the rows of bodies draw the gaze toward the back of the hall, where the rain seems to thicken against the open archway. one drop of water beads on the edge of a wooden prayer bowl in the foreground, catching the light.
