Rich amber sunset light floods the high, dusty rafters of a bustling market hall in Mbuji-Mayi, illuminating suspended particles that dance in the air. A young monk with a shaved head sits cross-legged on a woven mat, his saffron robes draped simply over his frame. He holds an open scripture, eyes focused on the text while the chaotic energy of the market hums around him. Wooden beams and corrugated metal walls define the space, showing signs of wear and age. The monsoon season is evident in the damp patches on the earthen floor and the heavy, humid glow of the light. Dust motes swirl in the shafts of golden light, catching the edge of his sleeve before fading into the shadows of the stall behind him.
