Milky Way Rising Over Grain Bins in Honduras Desert in beneath a wind-cut desert escarpment in Honduras

Milky Way Rising Over Grain Bins in Honduras Desert

by Warren Holcomb

Cold moonlight washes the silos in pale silver, their corrugated metal surfaces reflecting the starlight with a sharp, metallic glint. The vast desert escarpment cuts a jagged dark silhouette against the indigo sky, its wind-sculpted ridges standing silent and dry. Above, the Milky Way stretches in a dense band of dust and star clusters, rising vertically over the industrial line of storage tanks. The air appears crisp and clear, allowing the faintest stars to shine with unblinking intensity. Shadows fall long and soft between the bins, at the base of the structures in the arid earth. One grain bin door, slightly ajar, reveals a darker interior void against the bright celestial backdrop.
