Milky Way Core Over Dry Canyon Near Jeddah

by Ross Lowery

Deep starlight floods the arid plateau near Jeddah, illuminating a rugged canyon cut into dry red rock. The Milky Way core stretches across the upper third of the frame, a dense band of silver dust and dark nebulae hanging against the pitch-black sky. Below, the canyon walls rise in sharp geometric layers, their surfaces textured with loose gravel and sparse, scraggly shrubs that barely register in the dim light. The horizon line sits low, showing the vastness of the night sky above the silent desert floor. Cool blue tones dominate the shadows, against the faint warm glow of the distant horizon. One ridge line cuts diagonally across the lower left, anchoring the composition against the infinite star field.
