Milky Way Arc Over New Mexico Desert Road Night
by Lynn Curtis
Silver starlight floods a cracked asphalt road winding beneath a wind-sculpted sandstone escarpment in New Mexico. The sky dominates the upper two-thirds of the view, a dense band of the Milky Way arching in brilliant white and violet against a pitch-black canvas. Below, the dry desert floor stretches flat, dotted with sparse, dormant sagebrush and scattered rocks that catch the faint celestial glow. The road surface reflects the galaxy's brightness, creating a shimmering path that leads toward the dark silhouette of the cliffs. Dust hangs motionless in the air, invisible yet suggested by the sharp clarity of the distant stars. The stone walls of the escarpment rise steeply on the left, their rough textures defined by the cool, silvery winter light filtering through the darkness. A faint, cool haze lingers near the horizon where the road disappears into the night.
