Mesopotamian Ziggurat Ruin in Abandoned Court

by Tina Huynh

Sunlight floods the dry season air, illuminating drifting dust particles that hang in sharp beams across the stone structure. The ziggurat rises in massive, weathered steps, its mud-brick surface eroded into rough, textured layers of beige and ochre. Nature creeps in from the edges where cracked concrete and scattered rubble meet the encroaching green shrubs. In the background, the courtyard walls frame the distant horizon, creating deep layers of shadow and light that emphasize the scale of the ancient ruin. A small patch of dry grass grows from a fissure in the lowest tier, anchoring the scene in the present moment of decay.
