Bright afternoon light floods the ribbed concrete lobby in Rotorua, illuminating the carved wooden entrance of a Maori meeting house. The dark timber contrasts sharply with the pale, textured concrete walls that curve overhead. Intricate geometric patterns and stylized figures cover the lintel and door frame, rendered in deep browns and reds. Dramatic clouds visible through the high windows cast shifting shadows across the polished floor. Vibrant red banners hang loosely from the ceiling beams, adding splashes of color against the neutral architecture.
