Leeds Penstock Intake Spray at Dawn

Bright orange hazard paint coats the heavy steel grate of a penstock intake, where rising spray from the spillway below creates a shimmering veil. Low dawn light traces the rough concrete edges, illuminating droplets suspended in the air. Ground fog pools in the shadowed recesses beneath the structure, softening the transition to the water. The grid of identical penstock intakes stretches endlessly into the background, a surreal repetition that defies the physical space. Each grate reflects the pale morning sky, creating a rhythmic pattern of metal and light. The leading lines of the concrete chute guide toward the infinite row of duplicated structures. One droplet hangs on the lower bar, refracting the orange paint into a tiny spectrum.
