Dawn Mist Over Concrete Canal Reeds

by Katrina Bryant

Pale orange sunlight strikes the rough, grey surface of a concrete cooling canal, illuminating blades of brown reeds that fringe the water's edge. The view rises from ground level, showing the sheer verticality of the concrete wall against a low horizon. Fine mist and spray hover just above the water, catching the first rays of the rising sun and diffusing the light into a soft, hazy glow. The texture of the weathered concrete is sharp and pitted, against the delicate, dry stems of the late autumn vegetation. A shadow stretches long across the wet pavement, ending at a small puddle reflecting the pale sky. The water remains still, mirroring the faint color of the dawn sky above the reeds.
