Ladder Cage Mast in Bog Cotton in across a windy overpass interchange in Kamsar

Ladder Cage Mast in Bog Cotton

by Sue Hanna

Tall steel ladder cages rise vertically from a dense sea of white bog cotton plants on a windy overpass interchange in Kamsar. The cool season air whips the fluffy white fibers into chaotic streams around the rigid, grey metal structure. Clear dry mountain light casts sharp, high-contrast shadows across the textured surfaces of the steel rungs and the soft plant matter below. The symmetrical composition centers the vertical infrastructure against the horizontal spread of the wetland vegetation. Strong winds distort the plant shapes, creating a dynamic texture that contrasts with the static, industrial geometry of the tower. One rust spot marks the lower rung near the base of the cage. The metal surface reflects the bright sky while the bog cotton remains matte and soft.
