Kangaroo Joey Silhouetted Against Noon Light

Flat noon glare fractures through a canopy of broad, wet leaves, casting shifting patches of shadow across the arid ground near Lima. A kangaroo stands in profile, its dark form reduced to a sharp silhouette against the bright, washed-out sky. A tiny joey peeks from the mother's pouch, its small head and ears outlined by the harsh backlight. Rain has left the surrounding ferns glistening with fresh moisture, and the earth appears parched and dusty despite the wet foliage overhead. The contrast between the deep black of the animals and the bleached white of the sky creates a stark, graphic image. One leaf edge catches the light, glowing translucent green against the dark fur.
