Brass Bowls in Bangkok Prayer Hall Monsoon Light

by Jared Hays

Low evening light falls through a frame-within-a-frame opening, casting the brass bowls on the museum shelf into deep silhouette. The metal surfaces reflect faint, cool streaks of the outside world, against the dark interior of the prayer hall. A thin layer of dry-season fog hangs low, softening the edges of the tarps suspended above. The bowls sit in a tight row, their curved rims catching just enough ambient glow to hint at their polished texture. Behind them, the blurred outlines of wooden pillars anchor the space. The shadow of the tarps falls across the foreground, creating a sharp geometric boundary against the smooth metal. One highlight glimmers on the rim of the nearest bowl.
