Greek Orthodox Chapel Interior Noon Light in inside a stone chapel in Holguin

Greek Orthodox Chapel Interior Noon Light

by Alex Marks

Cool reflected light fills the stone interior of a Greek Orthodox chapel in Holguin, bouncing off high vaulted ceilings during the flat glare of noon. Rough-hewn stone walls rise vertically, guiding toward the altar area through strong architectural leading lines. Sunlight streams through high windows, casting sharp, bright patches across the textured floor and illuminating dust motes suspended in the air. The season's transition is visible in the crisp, clean edges of the light and the muted tones of the aged masonry. Wooden icons hang in rows, their gold frames catching the window light against the gray stone. A heavy velvet curtain hangs motionless to the right, its deep red fabric against the pale, cool shadows that pool in the corners. at the edge is a single scratch on the stone step near the threshold.
