Horizontal Tree on Tepui Wall in Misty Dawn in across a floodplain after rain near Strathcona, Vancouver

Horizontal Tree on Tepui Wall in Misty Dawn

by Dylan Meyers

Early winter mist clings to a vast floodplain near Strathcona, where low-hanging clouds blur the horizon under diffused dawn light. Rising from this damp expanse is a massive tepui flat-top mountain, its sheer granite walls piercing the fog. Defying gravity, a fully leafed tree grows horizontally from the vertical rock face, its roots gripping the stone as if it were soil. The green foliage contrasts sharply with the gray, weathered granite and the soft white vapor. From a birds eye view, the water on the ground reflects the pale sky, while the impossible tree casts a faint shadow against the cliff. One wet leaf on the branch edge glistens with morning condensation.
