Glacier Tongue Calving Into Turquoise Water
by Ray Cook
Thick mist rests on the low horizon where the sky meets the water, softening the distant landscape near Tromsø. A massive glacier tongue extends from the left, its surface textured with deep blue crevasses and ridges of ice. The ice ends abruptly at the waterline, plunging into milky turquoise liquid churned by the calving event. Low dawn light strikes the haze at the horizon, casting a pale glow that illuminates the steam rising from the cold surface. The water reflects the gray sky above, while the ice shows shades of white, blue, and translucent green. In the foreground, small fragments of ice float near the edge, creating a stark contrast against the deep, opaque water. One crack runs vertically through the ice face, revealing the density of the frozen mass.
