Haboob Approaching Isfahan Desert City
by Ryan Hogan
A towering wall of ochre dust dominates the horizon, rolling toward the low-rise structures of Isfahan under a harsh late-afternoon sky. The sun hangs low and bright, casting long, sharp shadows across the arid ground while illuminating the swirling sand in the storm's leading edge. Flat, dusty plains stretch between the city and the approaching weather, dotted with sparse, dry scrub that bends under the force of the wind. Traditional buildings with flat roofs and earth-toned walls stand rigid against the encroaching brown cloud, their details slowly obscured by the thickening haze. The air appears heavy with suspended grit, turning the distant skyline into a silhouette of fading geometry. A fine layer of red dust settles on the nearest concrete sidewalk, marking the storm's first touch.
