Orange Sandstorm Hitting Desert Fort Tunisia in across a storm-bright plain in Tunisia

Orange Sandstorm Hitting Desert Fort Tunisia

by Dennis Knox

Thick orange dust clouds roll across a flat, arid plain in Tunisia, obscuring the horizon under a harsh midday sun. The weather-beaten stone walls of a desert fort rise from the swirling haze, their rough, sandy surfaces catching the intense coastal glare. Grit particles whip horizontally, blurring the edges of the ancient ramparts and flattening the landscape into a monochromatic wash of ochre and rust. The sky above is a solid, glowing sheet of burnt amber, devoid of blue. Shadows remain sharp and dark against the bright, dust-choked ground, showing the solidity of the masonry against the chaotic motion of the wind. A fine layer of red sand coats the lower stones, marking the edge where the storm meets the earth.
