Greater Kudu Bull in Monsoon Light Near Can Tho
by Chad Cross
Low-hanging gray clouds press down on a wet riverbank where a greater kudu bull stands in stillness. The animal's coat displays a deep fawn hue with distinct white vertical stripes running along its flanks. Massive spiral horns curve backward, catching the soft, reflected light bouncing off the nearby water surface. The ground beneath the hooves is muddy and slick, showing the heavy saturation of the monsoon season. A few sparse reeds rise from the mud at the edge of the frame. The low camera angle emphasizes the bull's height against the overcast sky. Water droplets rest on the coarse fur near the neck, glistening faintly in the diffuse afternoon glow. at the edge is the dark, wet reflection of the horns mirrored in a shallow puddle at the animal's front hooves.
