Frosty Kudu Bull at Afghan Waterhole Edge in at the edge of a reed bed in Afghanistan

Frosty Kudu Bull at Afghan Waterhole Edge

by Beckett Goodman

Crystalline frost coats the dry reeds lining the waterhole edge, creating a textured white layer against the muted earth tones of early autumn. A kudu bull stands low in the frame, his massive spiral horns rising prominently against the soft, overcast sky. The animal's dark coat contrasts sharply with the frozen vegetation surrounding him. Patches of pale frost rest on the tips of the grasses and the rough bark of nearby shrubs. The water surface remains still, reflecting the gray light and the silhouette of the bull's head. Shadows are soft and diffuse, lacking harsh edges. A thin layer of ice forms along the muddy bank where the water meets the ground. The bull's eyes reflect the flat light, focused and alert.
