Brass Ship Bell on Can Tho River Boat

A heavy, polished brass ship bell hangs suspended from curved metal brackets on the weathered deck of a wooden vessel near Can Tho. The wet season has left the timber dark and saturated with moisture, against the bright, reflective metal of the bell. Soft, diffused light from an overcast sky eliminates harsh shadows, allowing the greenish patina to appear subtly on the brass edges. Converging lines of the boat's structure draw toward a distant vanishing point along the Mekong River. Raindrops bead on the curved surface of the bell, catching the pale gray sky above. at the edge is a single streak of water running down the side of the bell, merging with the grain of the wet wood beneath it.
