Synchronized Fireflies on Autumn Creek Bank

A beam of white light sweeps across a dark creek bank near Jalalabad, illuminating clusters of fireflies that pulse in unison against the late autumn night. Low-hanging clouds obscure the stars, creating a heavy, gray ceiling above the water. The creek surface acts as a mirror, duplicating the glowing insects and the sweeping beam in a perfect vertical symmetry. Bare branches and dry, brown leaves line the muddy edge, their textures sharp under the sudden illumination. The light reveals the faint, bioluminescent rhythm of the swarm before the beam moves on, leaving the water to reflect the lingering faint glow of the insects against the cold, dark backdrop. One reflection of a glowing insect rests on a wet leaf at the water's edge.
