Iceberg Arch Floats in Quebec Valley Thaw in across a wide valley floor in Quebec

Iceberg Arch Floats in Quebec Valley Thaw

by Rocco Benson

Hard coastal glare flattens the colors of an early spring thaw across a wide Quebec valley floor. A massive iceberg with a natural arch floats in the gray, heavy overcast water below. The ice surface shows deep blue cracks and rough white ridges where the thaw has begun. Flat noon light eliminates long shadows, rendering the scene in stark, immediate tones. Below the arch, dark water ripples gently against the ice base. The valley stretches endlessly in every direction, a flat expanse of snow and ice under the heavy sky. The edge of the arch reflects a pale, washed-out light against the darker water.
