Giant Flamingo Wades Near Cairo Hydroelectric Spillway

by Arjun Stone

Dappled sunlight falls through leafy branches onto a concrete spillway lip, where water sprays into a canyon of mist. A perfectly clear blue sky stretches above the infrastructure. Beside the roaring water, a flamingo the size of a giraffe wades through the shallow spray. The massive bird's pink feathers stand out against the gray stone and white foam. Its long legs disappear into the misty canyon floor. The water creates a rainbow arc in the spray. Shadows from the leaves fall across the wet concrete surface. The bird's reflection ripples in the pooled water at its feet.
