Giant Clam Vivid Mantle Coral Shallows Cairns in along a coral wall with blue water beyond near Cairns

Giant Clam Vivid Mantle Coral Shallows Cairns

by Geraldine Terry

Sunlight fractures into shifting patterns of white and gold across the pale, sandy floor of the reef. A massive giant clam rests embedded in the coral wall, its thick, ribbed shell partially buried in the sediment. The exposed mantle displays intense, electric hues of turquoise and violet that ripple with slow, organic movement. Above, the water surface creates a gentle, undulating distortion, while deep blue water stretches into the background beyond the reef edge. The clarity of the tropical rain season water allows every texture of the shell to stand out against the soft, drifting caustics that dance over the clam's iridescent skin. A sharp edge of blue shadow falls along the lower curve of the shell.
